2009 and 2010 have been very busy for LACNIP. Here's a list of just a few of the events and activities that kept us busy throughout the year.
Cultural Appreciation Festival: 2010 was the 4th annual event, taking place at the Civic center, Downtown Lima. Thirteen countriesparticipated, delighting the audience with their native dress, dance, art, and special samples of their country's foods. Over 450 persons of all ages attended the event and had a great time.
Ottawa River Clean-up 2010: John Willamowski and Connie Miller chaired this annual event for 2010. More than 400 people took time out of their busy schedules to help clean up the banks of the Ottawa River. Volunteers for the event received a free T-shirt,, a Certificate and lunch to help commemorate the day.
City-wide Pride 2010: Dumpsters were made available at various sites and dates throughout the community. LACNIP's participating neighborhood associations were responsible for staffing the dumpster sites, picking up and returning their own supplies, and cleaning up their neighborhoods.
National Night Out 2010: Neighborhood associations teamed up with law enforcement throughout the community to give drugs and crime a "going away party." Many LACNIP volunteers worked hard to make this year's National Night Out a success. The party was held in Town Square and featured the Sheriff's Mounted Posse, the Bomb Squad, Inlfatable rides from UltraSounds,Displays from the Lima Police Department, a variety of community organizations, food, fun and music.
Regional Neighborhood Network Conference in Dayton, Ohio: Delegates representing several of LACNIP's neighborhoods attended this three day event which featured workshops, luncheon speakers, a networking exchange area, and neighborhood tours. It was an opportunity for the delegates to learn new methods and ideas for improving Lima/Allen County's neighborhoods. Lima's very own Connie Miller was the winner of the regional Stella Stewart"Doing Good in the Neighborhood" Award, chosen by the steering committee members from 5 states!!
LACNIP Annual Dinner & Good Neighbor Awards Program: Neighborhood associations have participated in this annual event for 16 years. Each year gets better and draws a bigger crowd. Good Neighbors are awarded in several categories each year.
